In person workshops in London and Manchester.
- London – Thursday 9 October 5:30 to 7 pm – APPEAL office (Central London).
- Manchester – Tuesday 4 November 4.30 to 6 pm – Garden Court North Chambers.
Our work has never been so challenging – both legally and personally. The prison estate is at full capacity and many of our clients have significant mental health problems and additional needs that simply cannot be met. As prison lawyers, we are often the only person that they can contact for support and a safe space to express frustrations. We are often the ones who have to break bad news or disclose distressing and sensitive information.
With over 90% of hearings online and many practitioners working from home as consultants, the work is increasingly isolated.
This workshop aims to create a space to share experiences and discuss strategies and ideas to support clients, ourselves and each other appropriately.
Facilitated by practitioners John Turner, Yasmin Karabasic and Laura Janes, members of the APL committee with a range of experiences from practice, it will cover:
- Common issues and concerns
- Manging client needs, expectations and demands – top tips
- Protecting and supporting yourself and each other – practical ideas
All APL committee members work for free. While we understand the financial pressures all practitioners are under, we do require some funds to cover our administrative overheads and therefore there is a modest cost to this course (although refreshments will be provided!).
Cost: £20 for members (£50 for three members from one firm); £50 for non-members
