APL and the Immigration Law Practitioners Association (ILPA) join forces to present a course about foreign national prisoners who are still serving their custodial sentences by the authors of Legal Action Group’s Foreign National Prisoners on the day the book is launched. Doughty Street Chambers, 54 Doughty Street WC1N2LS from 4pm-6.45pm.
The session will address specific hurdles affecting foreign nationals in the prison system, applicable release and removal mechanisms, and available remedies.
Note: This course is particularly timely and critical for all those working in this field because the prison service has, in late November 2011, amended all its main policies on foreign national prisoners (including the withdrawal, in its entirety, of PSO 4630). The trainers will, among other topics, take practitioners through the new policies, most importantly the changes made by PSI 52/2011 to Home Detention Curfew (HDC) and by PSI 59/2011 to the Early Removal Scheme (ERS).
Topics covered: HDC; Categorisation and Allocation; Parole; ERS; Prisoner Repatriation for foreign national prisoners.
