This conference will assist prison law practitioners dealing with clients who have or may have mental health problems in prison. The seminar will explain how the Mental Health Act 1983 operates in prisons, what kind of regime prisoners with mental health problems can expect, how to deal with disciplinary and punitive issues facing your client, the human rights implications of their treatment and how to assist your client with resettlement issues when applying for parole, early release or release to the community. The conference will also address the implications for the significant new policy changes afoot in relation to the closure of psychiatric hospital dangerous and severe personality disorder units.
The cost will be £75 for Members of the APL and £100 non-members.
